XP and dos mame

Post by Chad »

Ok, i finally decided to take the xmas business deduction on Windows eXPerimental and a new (i still can't believe it) gigahertz+ computer. I'm going to have to get used to seeing neogeo playbacks at 1000%+ throttling. so anyways, i've been able to get mamew (the normal mame distribution) to work great but dos mame chokes with segfaults, this will sort of mean i'll have to keep a win98 partition around to playback older than m37b16 mame recordings unless there is something i can do to the cmd/shortcut to make it work.

Anyone have any experience on this: using windows XP/2000 to make old dos mame versions work? other than "it doesn't work" kind of experience :)

Hi Chad

I use DOS mame with Arcade@home and it runs like a dream on my new
Dell Dimension 8200 P4 2ghz with a gig of ram under Windows XP
Home ;-)

The trick is not to send any command lines to mame, ie: in the
Arcade@home settings set it to 'NONE' and it will work fine!

Hope that helps!

Thanks GG. i'll try that, i hope i can debug arcade at home and
figure out "what" it does to make dos mame work so i can make dos
mame work on it's own. btw, if you run dos mame on xp with out
arcade at home what do you get? blank screen/no sound/segfault
screen?
