Ghouls'n Ghosts score

Post by MKL »

Would anyone be so kind as to let me know me the exact score of a Ghouls'n Ghosts (World) game I've just uploaded. Beside the .inp file I've added a screenshot where the score should appear. The problem is that I cannot view .png files. Nor do I want to watch the game again since it lasts four or five hours. The score is about 1250000 points. Probably I'll delete it after I know the exact score. Many thanks in advance.

This score plays back to score uploaded with sound (with out sound it
only played back to 930k). Note the happy ending showed up. I have
a hunch that if you don't die you get the dark ending. Seems to be
the only difference from the other finishes.

Well, in the dark ending game I died once...
Also, I did finish the game with the first life once (default
settings) but there was the usual happy music... The dark music
appears to be Lucifer's room music which *in that single case* kept
playing, probably because of a bug.

yeah, that's right on. it sounded the same but i wasn't going to
make an assumption since i wasn't that familiar with the tune. it
must be a timing issue of some sort to trigger the music to "NOT"
change to the different happy music, i wonder if this bug existed in
the real arcade, if not this one is for MAMEDEV team.

Did you keep your game finished with 1st life ? I would be more
interested to have it in my collection than the 4 hours input which
give you actually first place
And I still think for ghouls that a special scoring rewarding by
1000000 pts each life remaining for a guy who finishes the game could
avoid these longs inputs (even if I'm not concerned as I never managed
to finish this game !)

mmm... I'm afraid I've deleted it... it was an old game done with the
default settings and now I only play with the TG settings (which make
the game way tougher). Also, the score was less than 200k...
But I think that sooner or later I'll make it also with the TG
settings.

I think we should make two different rankings (I discussed the matter
briefly with Walter Day of TG and he agrees):

1) Official tournament settings. Players must try to finish the game
with first life and without repeating last level of round 2. Player
with the most points wins.

2) Marathon settings. Last level of round 2 must be played on and on
(I did it some 50 times) in order to get oodles of points (actually,
I played this kind of game after I read in the TG site that a guy
supposedly scored 1,088,700 pts).

Giving additional points for each remaining life is not wholly
satisfactory in my view because the bonus life you find in a pot
(somwhere in the last 3 levels, usually in the 4th) not always shows
up, meaning that a player may eventually have 1 million pts more than
another with no skill... We should rather give the bonus points to
the player that finishes the game with the 1st life.
