Post by giro-X »

Round 7 is
Momoko 120%

The romset name is: momoko

Year: 1986
Manufacturer: Jaleco
Genre: Platform

This is a game of the second phase of the tournament. You can upload your INPs to this thread, or in MARP, from February 2nd to March 1st included.
TIME REMAINING (click here)

Resume of the tournament rules:
- Recordings must be done with WolfMAME version 0.152; remember to delete the NVRAM before each recording has been performed.
- Default settings / dipswitches have to be used.
- MARP special rules for this game: [none]
- General MARP rules like no use of autofire, macros, 2 credits, 2 players etc. have to be followed. Recording speed has to be included between 95% and 100~101%.
- :!: Upload the recording in 24 hours after you have recorded it! Failure to do so will occur in a nullified score!
- If you submit to MARP, please include the string "T13" in the comment, so to make clear distinction between participants of tournament, and other recordings.

About scores:
- Best score gets 100 points, always. All the following scores are calculated in proportion to the best score, like a percentage, rounded down to the nearest integer.
- :!: Every 7 days from the beginning of the time allowed for playing, a temporary ranking will be created with players' best scores so far, and smaller amounts of tournament points will be given. 12 points to the first position, 10 points for the second, 8 points for the third, and then 7-6-5-4-3-2-1-1-1 and so on for every recording sent.
The intermediate bonuses, of course, will not be given also a fourth time in coincidence with the end of the gaming period.

In Fordy's replay, the characters dies at last life by a sort of bug, I guess. I didn't know it could happen even with stairs 8O but it rarely rarely happens also with escalators, instead of going up the game makes you walk an imaginary escalator going down (aaand she dies.)
I saw it could happen, I just don't know how it happens (if I pause to check every single frame then the playback desyncs). And this doesn't depend from MAME version... it happened to me too but on w106.

Basically, avoid using diagonals when using escalators. Maybe the game was designed for a 4-way joystick, or maybe Jaleco didn't do anywhere near enough QA...

This game wouldn't be too bad if it weren't so buggy...

this game has so many problems that causes you to die.

You go up to the next floor Strangely you go down and Die .

This can happen anywhere .

Then the ladder can be done a lot easier with a keyboard then a Joystick.

I bet there was not these problems playing on a PCB

About ready to throw in the Towel on this event .

Please pick games without problems there are thousands of them.

Wouldn't be so sure about that... The escalator issue would be fixed with a 4-way joystick. Whether or not it was designed for a 4-way joystick is unknown.
Yes, the game is buggy, but it's not like it's the only one...

Man, that... escalated quickly

I guess you have no patience at times... find a problem with a game -> condemns entire tournament (oh right... you mentioned 106...)
Apart from this. Everyone is playing with the same conditions, and the only real bug I found up to now, for what the definition of bug is, that's the green alien that drops powerups when it's defeated and you are at max powerup level. Instead of behaving as usual, the game doesn't delete it from the screen, until you pick a shortcut door on the wall or end the stage. Even this bug can be avoided by simply not killing the alien, going back some steps until it goes out of the screen and then walking forward again.

Unless that, there is no real universal trouble, i.m.h.o.; you have to figure out the essential movements needed -> try again.
Of course if you don't like the game you are not forced to continue the training. It happens that games you don't like could be picked. I was expecting some complaining about this title, however I'm actually surprised by how many INPs have been sent to this game up to now and in two days we got already 3 scores over 400K pts.
