T13 - Games selection (for 1st period)

Post by giro-X »

(Apologize for a delay in posting the thread in the defined time - it took me more than expected to prepare the page. A lesson learned for future.)

Game selection

All users (who desire to play then in the tournament, but also not) are invited to vote for the games they would like to be played in the first period of the tournament.
All games voted will be sorted in a list, divided by genre. The four games that will be chosen for the tournament, will be extracted following this procedure:
-random extraction of 4 genres;
-random extraction of one title from each of the 4 genres previously extracted.

From December 1st to 14th, players/users are allowed to vote.
From December 15th to January 4th, coordinator and users all can discuss about the games voted (to decide how they can be divided in genres, if they are worth to be considered, etc.) using this thread.
One hour before the tournament beginning in January 5th, games will be extracted. Communication of the chosen games will coincide with the beginning of the tournament.

How to vote

The user can express up to three (3) preferences in a reply to this thread. The user is not obliged anyhow to express 3 preferences, but can vote also for one or two games only. Only one comment with votes is allowed for users, so think carefully before submitting your choices. The comments can't be edited as well; if you do it, the original votes will be reported.

The tournament coordinator can not vote. (kind of obvious)

Please express your votes by stating, at least, the ROMset name of the game (for WolfMAME 0.151)(**), to avoid any sort of misunderstanding. For any doubt or question about the correct ROMset name of a defined title, send a question here or by PM to me BEFORE voting.
If a game has multiple game modalities (see example below made on Puzzle Bobble 2), you have to choose one of the modalities.
(**): Version of WolfMAME to use is updated to 0.152 (released on Dec. 24th); no changes in the involved ROMset names.

Games you can vote

It is suggested to vote for max. three different games, but since the extraction method will pick in any case four games of different genres, you are also allowed to insert two/three clones/versions/modalities of the same game. During the discussion phase that will follow, if we state that two versions are too similar or practically identical, the "surplus" will be removed from the list.
Example: Puzzle Bobble 2 and Puzzle Bobble 2X have different patterns, so both could be voted, or the Puzzle mode and VS CPU mode could be voted, of course they would count as 2 votes of the 3 allowed. I took this example because pbobble2 and clones are disallowed (already played).

Q: Can we vote for different settings? (like hardest, max. 3 lives, etc.)
A: No, you can not. As stated in the general rules, the default MAME settings will be used.

Games you can NOT vote for, are:
-Games already played in recent MARP tournaments (you can see the list below) AND THEIR CLONES
-Not working games
-Games that belong to one of these genres: Fruit Machines, Casino, Pinball, Quiz, Mahjong, Hanafuda. If a game is not considered proper for a tournament, that will be discussed in the later phase.
-Banned games from MARP (click here to view)

List of games played in recent MARP tournaments
(I'm sorry if I listed the name of a parent and a clone has been played, or viceversa. It doesn't have much importance: as I said above, clones of these games can't be voted.)

As stated in the main rules, if it happens that two users vote the same game (romset), such votes will be considered as one. So yes, it's useless to vote a game already voted, it won't help to get major probabilities to be picked.

If you have experiences with arcade forums of your country, and lately you have played several games in tournaments reserved to those forums, then I encourage you, for the sake of sportmanship, to not vote for games of those tournament. No control will be done about this, but let's be fair :)

If there is a japanese clone of the game, it can be chosen instead of the World/Europe, of course. If instead you refer to internal settings, like it may be the Japan MVS for Neo-Geo, then no.
You anyhow made your choices already so, perhaps it was better to ask this before :P

I suppose the romsets you refer to are: dkongjr, spacefb, phoenix, darktowr, berzerk1.
I'm sorry but I have to remember that you can vote up to max. three choices :( so please choose two of them to exclude
I don't know still how Berzerk works, but if "slow bullets" is a dipswitch then we can't adopt it. All games in default settings ;)

slow and fast bullets are separate romsets, not dispwitch settings.

That list is embarrassingly outdated, especially on the broken / does not playback section ...

(going to vote once that I have a bunch of ideas ...)

:? hmmm
You're more acknowledged than me on this. Among that list, which games should be "still" banned, if you know?
(or which shouldn't, if it's easier to answer to :D )

Certainly, anything archived (or *ed) shouldn't be used. Pretty much all those non-working or non-playbackable games are working fine now (a lot has happened in the 13 years since that page was last updated).

Some testing, looking for confirmed scores, and checking for special rules will all help.

If games do not work before why are they being questioned for games for this event? Let's stick with games that are known to work perfectly?

Let's move with common sense. If you know that a game doesn't work properly or has playback issues, simply guess that you could not vote it. If this happens, we will anyhow find out any irregularity in the discussion period.
(Bad english but I hope the meaning of my message could arrive  )
