I have a problem: Recording with 0.152 often the game slows down and the speed goes even to 72-68% for a lot of seconds. Can i use 0.106? I tried the games with it and it seems work.

Wanna try to send some recordings, so I can see how big is the trouble?
I know it ruins part of the fun, but try with higher frameskip (not too high, I think that playing already with a frameskip of 4/11 is pretty disturbing) or with the option
-nosound
Do you have these slow moments even with Tutankham and the other old titles?
Routine question... did you turn off antivirus and any other disturbing program before recording?
(send something with 0.152, so we can see  )

-nosound won't speed anything up. It only mutes the audio output.

Also, which game? None of these should be particularly hard on CPU time...

Slowest game is Battle Circuit, which I get about 700-850% speed on (although Super Punch Out is not a lot faster, with its dual screen display). While these speeds are on a 64-bit SDL build, my PC is now something like 5 years old.

Ok #-o I thought that avoiding sound could help, but I admit I wasn't sure of this method.

Back in the day, it used to disable emulation of the sound devices and sound CPU, but that was dropped a number of years back (somewhere around 0.90, maybe earlier?) since that caused issues with some games.

ehhhhh.... yeah, the average speed would be acceptable (98%) but the speed for some seconds goes very slow. And, we're talking of Tutankham, the easier to emulate of the four.

Asking to the regulation coordinator if we can let Goldtimes (and Goldtimes only at the moment) to record with older MAME version. (according to tournament regulation, 0.106. Games show no particular change to me between versions, only batcir requires different ROMset)

I have this problem on one of my machines which I solve by disconnecting it from the network and then forcibly stopping the anti-virus software while I'm recording. Is this an option for you to try?

I make sure to restart the AV software before connecting it to the network again to upload the recordings of course!!

Cheers,
BeeJay.

It's time to reveal the games that will be part of the second phase of the tournament.

As you may remember, on this post [click here] I uploaded the original list with 8 games, all of different genre, year and manufacturer, and only the first 4 of the list that will not share the same genre with a game played already in 1st phase, are going to be extracted.
The password to decrypt that ZIP file and to verify that's the original, and no change has been done in time, is (respect the capital letters and the absence of space):

Code: Select all

thistimewithoutKOD
(Explanation of the password: believe it or not, before RAX could reveal the TT games, I had put The King of Dragons too in the list. I obviously had to replace it. :D )

List of the games was:
1- Pop 'n Bounce / Gapporin [popbounc] (BREAKOUT - Video System Co. - 1997) - PASSED
2- Chase H.Q. (World) [chasehq] (DRIVING - Taito Corp. - 1988) - Already played this genre
3- Far East of Eden - Kabuki Klash / Tengai Makyou - Shin Den [kabukikl] (FIGHTING/VERSUS - Hudson - 1995) - PASSED
4- Momoko 120% [momoko] (PLATFORM - Jaleco - 1986) - PASSED
5- Captain Commando (World 911202) [captcomm] (FIGHTER/2.5D - Capcom - 1991) - Already played this genre
6- V-Five (Japan) [vfive] (VERTICAL SHOOTER - Toaplan - 1992) - PASSED
7- Lady Bug [ladybug] (MAZE - Universal - 1981) - Already played this genre
8- Columns (World) [columns] (PUZZLE - SEGA - 1990) - Already picked 4 games!

Surprise! The first tournament I host has no puzzle game and no Taito game! Oh, the irony
So, to resume. popbounc, kabukikl, momoko and vfive are the next 4 games. I need some minutes still to create the topics and upload the ranking.

Small typo that doesn't have any influence... V-Five is of year 1993, not 1992.

Time remaining link: click here
Global and single games rankings: always in the same place (last post)

HERE IS LISTED WHICH ROMSETS ARE NEEDED FOR ALL THESE 4 GAMES.
popbounc
kabukikl
momoko
vfive
neogeo
grindstm

Ouch ; so I won't have any regret, as I had no time to participate in January.
I will try to give a go to Popbounc anyway, as I like the game ; even if the scoring gives big part to luck, as I have pointed out in WCC where I had chosen the game

It was destiny, perhaps. :)
Yep, luck has its role in the game, luckily it's a short game and one can find time to do several tries. I'll be looking for your score :]
